My name is Jeffery Ang. I have more than 30 years of flying experience in aviation, both in military and commercial airline operations. I started my flying career in 1987 at the age of 19 with the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF). After serving a total of 12 years as a full-time military pilot, I left the RSAF in 1999 to join Singapore Airlines (SIA) as a commercial airline pilot.
During my service in the RSAF, I have gained enormous aviation experience flying the C130 Hercules aircraft with 122 Squadron based in Paya Lebar Airbase. I rose through the ranks to become an Aircraft Commander and was trained in a wide spectrum of operations. My specialty included the C130 Combat and Tactical amphibious operations, and had participated in numerous peace support operations, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) missions at both regional and international levels. My last appointment held in the squadron was a Category A Operational Combat Pilot. I continued to serve the RSAF as a reservist pilot from 1999 till 2007 before being appointed as a Deputy Division Air Liaison Officer with HQ 21st Division, responsible for the coordination of air support for the Singapore Armed Forces Guards Formation. Subsequent to that, I was appointed as a Specialist Staff Officer of the Combined Arms Division until the statutory age towards the completion of National Service. This completed my 31 years of active and reserve service and contribution to the safeguarding of peace and security of Singapore and for Singaporeans.
I am currently qualified as a training Captain on Boeing B787-10 in Singapore Airlines. Prior to this position, I was also a flight instructor on the B777-200/300 aircraft. I completed a
Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management in 2017 that included studies on Pilot’s Fatigue Management, Human Performance Limitations, Aviation Strategic Management, Aircraft Safety System and Investigation, and Check and Training for Airline Pilots. I have since achieved almost 3000 flight hours in military operations and more than 13000 flight hours as a commercial airline pilot.
Presently, I am also serving in the Air Line Pilots Association Singapore (ALPAS) as the Chairman of the SQ Branch. After being voted by members of ALPAS into the Executive Council, I was first elected as the Vice Chairman of SQ Branch from Jun 2018 till Feb 2019 before being promoted to the position of Chairman of SQ Branch. My role requires me to support the President of ALPAS and the Executive Council in contributing to the overall safety in the aviation industry amongst other functions and commitments of the Association. In Jun 2018 till Nov 2019, I was involved in establishing a fair and just collective agreement affecting more than two thousand pilots with the Company under the auspices of tripartism espoused by the industrial practices of the Ministry of Manpower in Singapore. As part of my broader responsibilities, I am involved in ensuing the safe and efficient deployment of pilots guided by the work rules in the collective agreement and the Air Navigation Regulation of Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore. The aim is to ensure an optimum productivity of every pilots without compromising safety and fatigue.
