Prof Paul Ananth Tambyah completed medical school at NUS and national service in the SAF Medical Corps. He then went on to do infectious diseases training at the University of Wisconsin under Dr Dennis Maki. Since returning to Singapore more than 20 years ago, he has served on a number of national and international committees including as founding head of the division of Infectious Diseases NUH and NUS, past President of the Society of Infectious Diseases, Singapore. He is currently Professor of Medicine NUS, Senior consultant Infectious Diseases Physician NUHS, visiting consultant to the Singapore Armed Forces and the National Center for Infectious Diseases. He is also President of the Asia Pacific Society of clinical microbiology and infection and President-elect of the International Society of Infectious Diseases – the largest society of infectious diseases practitioners and researchers globally and the publisher of ProMed.
